UVTI's Class of 2008

The Upper Valley Teacher Institute contributes to the improvement of education by helping mature, remarkably talented people enter the teaching profession. UVTI's class of 2008 carries on this tradition of excellence. In addition to their solid academic preparation, the majority of the interns had experience in other careers before deciding to become teachers.

The Class of 2008 includes a graphic designer preparing to become an art teacher, a geographer who plans to become a Spanish teacher, a Vice President from the TeleAtlas company preparing to teach elementary school, a research technician in microbiology and immunology at Dartmouth who will become a biology teacher, a former carpentry contractor, two attorneys, a marketing director, a parks and recreation director, a former U.S. Coastguard officer and helicopter pilot who will teach math and physics, a wilderness educator who will teach general science, and a computer programmer planning to become a math teacher. Many of the interns also have experience as coaches and youth mentors. Of the 34 interns in the class, 21 are women and 13 are men. They range in age from 23 to 57, with a median age of 39.
